Fluminense and Colombian national team star Jhon Arias is set to complete a move to Wolverhampton Wanderers for an estimated worth of £17.3 million (US$23.3 million).
Arias was one of the breakout stars of this summer’s Club World Cup, as his performances helped the Brazilian side reach the semi-finals of the tournament, where they lost to Chelsea by 2-0.
He won three man of the match awards in the tournament, and was a key part of Fluminense’s victory against Inter Milan on June 30. Arias leaves Fluminense as a club legend, helping them secure their first ever Copa Libertadores title against Boca Juniors in 2023, as well as the club’s first ever Recopa Sudamericana.
Jhon Arias set to join Wolverhampton Wanderers this summer
After the deal goes through, Arias will become Wolves third signing of the summer. The Premier League side has also seen the arrival of Fer Lopez from Celta Vigo, as well as the permanent signing of Jorgen Strand Larsen after his loan at the midlands club last season. Arias is expected to be a regular starter for the club as Wolves have seen several attackers leave the club this summer.
Arias is also set to become the fourth Colombian in the Premier League, as Luis Diaz, Jefferson Lerma and Daniel Muñoz are all expected to remain in the English top flight. Colombian Club Patriotas Boyaca will also celebrate the transfer of Arias to the Premier League, as they own 50% of his sporting rights, and are therefore entitled to almost US$ 11.6 million.

Jhon Arias has consistently been a key attacking presence for both club and Colombia. Last season he played on both wings for Fluminense, as a central and second striker as well as an attacking midfielder. Despite this versatility, he played most of his games on the right wing were he ended the campaign with four goals and 13 assists in 34 games for “Flu.”
Other Colombian’s could be on the move
As the European summer transfer window heats up, there are more Colombians that are expected to switch clubs. Colombian national team and Palmeiras midfielder Richard Rios is reportedly due for a move to Italian side AS Roma for €25 million (US$29 million) + €3 million in bonuses. Manchester United and Atalanta are also reportedly interested in the Colombian midfielder.
Luis Diaz has also been the subject of speculation this summer, as many sources have reported alleged agreements between the player and Barcelona and Bayern Munich. So far however, none of these reports have been confirmed, and Diaz has already joined his club Liverpool for the pre-season.
