The automotive sector records the best start of the year in sales since 2012, according to the National Association of Business Leaders of Colombia (ANDI) and the National Federation of Business Owners (Fenalco). The data coincides with the arrival of Rueda Electrica Fest at Unicentro Bogota from May 7 to 10. To support consumer demand following a 267% growth in electric vehicle registrations last year, nearly 20 brands will showcase their latest electric and hybrid models to help buyers make informed decisions. This free fair seeks to consolidate the energy transition through live experiences and spaces for citizen pedagogy.
Colombia saw 73,659 new vehicle registrations between January and March 2026. During the same period, hybrid vehicles showed robust growth, increasing by 72.3%. Furthermore, the national infrastructure reached 229 public charging stations and 746 registered connectors by the end of last year.
Macro and micromobility solutions on display
The offer includes private cars, SUV-type trucks, heavy-duty vehicles, and motorcycles. Manufacturers such as Chevrolet, Volvo, Ford, and Kia will present their latest passenger models with extended autonomy technologies. Simultaneously, the fair will have a section dedicated to micromobility where the public will test scooters, skateboards, and electric bicycles for short urban trips.
Foton and Dongfeng are set to exhibit electric trucks tailored for business logistics, alongside Riddara—a Geely subsidiary—which will debut its heavy-duty pick-up models. Companies like Minca and Urban will present light solutions to avoid traffic congestion in main cities. This variety allows both families and entrepreneurs to compare alternatives adjusted to their specific transport needs.
Industry experts will analyze the evolution of technology and infrastructure challenges in panels open to the public. These discussion panels are part of the festival’s educational agenda, designed to address common concerns regarding vehicle range and charging. Jose Rey, founder of Rueda Electrica Fest, explained the objectives of this edition.
“Colombia already shows a very clear acceleration in electric mobility, and that opens an opportunity to bring the conversation closer to the citizen. Rueda Eléctrica Fest arises precisely with that purpose: to create a space where people can see this transformation up close, understand how it works, compare options, and connect technology with their daily lives,” Rey stated.
Sustainability and transformation in public space
Unicentro Bogotá acts as a strategic ally by integrating solar energy systems and waste management into its daily operation. The shopping center features a 9,000-square-meter (96,875 sq ft) Cultural District dedicated to hosting the event’s activities.
Sergio Rengifo Caicedo, executive director of CECODES, highlighted that the decarbonization of transport constitutes a vital strategy to reduce greenhouse gases. Thus, the festival strengthens the roadmap towards Colombia’s Vision 2050 regarding carbon neutrality.
Tariff regulation for vehicle charging
In parallel, the Energy and Gas Regulatory Commission (CREG) is preparing a regulation for energy charging at charging stations. Angela Alvarez, commissioner of CREG, confirmed that the regulatory framework will be ready by June 2027. The official indicated that they are currently working on defining the rates that users will pay.
This regulation seeks to provide legal certainty to investors who install charging points throughout the territory. Simultaneously, the regulation aims to protect the final consumer from excessive charges and guarantee the efficiency of the national electrical system. This measure will complement existing incentives designed to encourage the adoption of zero-emission vehicles across the country.
