Colombia’s Juan Valdez has announced plans to open over 100 coffee shops in Spain.

The announcement follows an agreement with Trinity Group, a key partner of the coffee chain’s parent company Procafecol in Europe.

Juan Valdez is also looking to expand into some of the largest markets in the world in the short term, including Brazil and China. Given the rising interest in premium coffee, these markets are seen as a crucial opportunity for the Colombian brand to grow.

The brand has recently celebrated a very significant milestone as it currently operates more than 600 coffee shops all over the world. The latest Juan Valdez shop opened outside of Colombia was in Turkey.

Juan Valdez’s expands into Spain, Europe, as coffee profits grow

Juan Valdez, Colombia’s most iconic coffee brand has reported 2024 as being a remarkable financial year, stating its utilities grew by 551%.

The company announced its profits increased, reaching 12.36 billion COP (approximately US$3 million), compared to 1.89 billion COP (around US$ 0.46 million) registered in 2023. According to the company, this increase is attributed to improvements in the operating margin and to successful commercial strategies both in Colombia and internationally.

Juan Valdez’s parent company, Procafecol, closed 2024 with cumulative revenues of 743.2 billion COP (approximately US$181 million), representing a 8.5% growth compared to the 684.85 billion COP (around US$166.78 million) generated in 2023. The company credits this positive performance to the expansion of Juan Valdez locations, continuous innovation, and effective communication within the company.

Juan Valdez has 632 locations all over the world

The coffee maker is one of Colombia’s most globalized brands,operating 375 locations in Colombia, and 257 coffee shops all over the world. In 2024, the brand opened coffee shops in strategic locations like Brazil, Mexico, Argentina, Turkey and the United Arab Emirates.

Juan Valdez also saw a 9% increase in sales at its Colombian locations in 2024, along with a 21% rise in sales of its products in local shops and supermarkets.

The company maintains a strong social commitment to over 548,000 families in Colombia’s coffee-growing regions, who support its continued growth both domestically and in international markets.

Juan Valdez was created in 1959 by the National Federation of Coffee Growers of Colombia (Fedecafe) as part of a marketing campaign to promote Colombian coffee. The brand is the official ambassador of Colombian coffee abroad, introducing to the world the unmatched flavors of Colombian Arabica beans.
