Colombia, a country rich in tourist attractions, offers a diverse range of destinations that captivate its visitors. While many places are widely recognized, some lesser-known tourist spots with stunning landscapes deserve the same attention.

Three lesser-known tourist spots in Colombia

Among Colombia’s lesser-known tourist destinations are the Salinas de Galerazamba, Rincon del Mar, in the department of Sucre, and the Oasis de la Sirena in Valle del Cauca. These locations, while not as well known as some of the country’s other destinations, stand out for their beauty and authenticity, making them ideal options for those looking to explore Colombia from a different perspective.

Salinas de Galerazamba, Bolivar

The “Pink Sea” of Colombia lies in the village of Galerazamba in Santa Catalina municipality, located approximately one hour from Cartagena and 1 hour and 15 minutes from Barranquilla. At this little-known natural marvel, the sea water turns pink due to its high salt concentration and the presence of halophilic microalgae that produce beta-carotene.

At this hidden gem in Bolivar, the magical beauty of the pink waters of the Salinas de Galerazamba also meet with the deep blue of the Atlantic Ocean.

The best time to visit this paradise is between December and April, when the phenomenon is most intense. Besides being a tranquil spot for visitors and photography enthusiasts, the entrance fee is affordable at 5,000 pesos (US$1.3) per person.

Ricon del Mar, Sucre

In the municipality of San Onofre, Sucre, lies Rincon del Mar, a small village that has become one of Colombia’s hidden treasures. This destination is known for its white sandy beaches, crystal-clear waters, and serene atmosphere, making it a perfect option for those seeking relaxation and a private, family-friendly environment.

Visitors to Rincon del Mar can stay at charming hotels just steps from the sea. Many are managed by locals and therefore offer an authentic and welcoming experience. Along the beach, small bars and restaurants serve delicious local cuisine, refreshing cocktails, and chilled drinks perfect for the tropical climate.

Getting to this peaceful paradise is an experience in itself. From Cartagena, you can take a bus to San Onofre and then a motorcycle taxi to Rincon del Mar. Upon arrival, you will be greeted by the warmth of its inhabitants, who go above and beyond to make visitors feel at home.

Rincon del Mar is an ideal spot for sun, beach, and disconnecting from the world.

Oasis de la Sirena, Valle del Cauca

The Oasis de la Sirena, located in the El Danubio Nature Reserve, is one of the most enchanting destinations in Valle del Cauca. Situated in the village of El Danubio, municipality of Dagua, just 1 1/2 hours from Cali, this natural paradise is known for its emerald-green waters, stunning waterfalls, and turquoise pools surrounded by lush tropical rainforest.

The biodiversity of the Oasis de la Sirena is one of its greatest attractions. The area is home to a variety of birds, including parrots, tanagers, hummingbirds, woodpeckers, and sparrows, which fill the air with their colors and songs. This natural richness makes it an ideal place for birdwatching and connecting with nature.

In addition to enjoying the natural pools and waterfalls, visitors can hike along trails surrounded by vegetation, exploring the wonders of the local ecosystem. The rocky formations framing the waterfalls and pools add a magical touch to this hidden gem, considered one of Colombia‘s most incredible spots.

To get to El Danubio from Cali, visitors should take the road toward the Pacific coast, passing kilometer 18. They can then continue on to El Queremal before following an unpaved road leading to the village of El Danubio. The entrance fee to the Oasis de la Sirena is 15,000 pesos (less than US$4) per person, a small price to pay to enjoy this incredible natural treasure.
