Nariño is often overlooked when thinking about tourism in Colombia. This department has much to offer its visitors, as it boasts several volcanoes, such as Galeras, Cumbal and Azufral, as well as beautiful landscapes and iconic places. Nariño is also renowned for its Carnival of Blacks and Whites, one of the most important cultural festivals in the country.

Its economy is primarily based on agriculture and livestock farming. The region’s agricultural products, such as coffee and fruits, are recognized for their high quality.

Azufral Volcano

Located in the municipality of Tuquerres, Azufral Volcano is one of the most attractive volcanoes in Colombia, surrounded by an emerald-green lagoon. From the top of the volcano, you can appreciate the beauty of the surrounding landscape, which features wheat, fava bean, potato, and barley crops, framed by fences.

Nariño cultivates some of the best coffee beans in the country, known for their high quality and unique flavor. For coffee enthusiasts, many farms in the department offer the famous “Coffee Route” to tourists and locals. This tour includes a visit to the coffee plantations, a guide on grain selection, an explanation of the coffee cultivation and preparation process, and tastings. El Encanto Natural Park is one of Nariño’s natural gems and is part of Colombia’s Natural Parks system. This park is known for its biodiversity and unique landscapes.
