‘One Hundred Years of Solitude’ Sweeps Colombia’s India Catalina Film Awards

The city of Cartagena de Indias was draped in grandeur last weekend to celebrate the 41st edition of the India Catalina Awards, an event honoring the most outstanding achievements in Colombia’s audiovisual industry.

The ceremony, held as part of the 64th International Film Festival of Cartagena de Indias (FICCI), brought together iconic figures from the national entertainment scene and spotlighted productions that have shaped the country’s television and cinematic landscape over the past year.

The undisputed star of the night was the television adaptation of One Hundred Years of Solitude, produced by Dynamo for Netflix. This ambitious series, based on Gabriel García Márquez’s magnum opus, swept up 11 awards, cementing its status as the most celebrated production of the evening.

One Hundred Years of Solitude shines bright at the 2025 India Catalina Awards

As anticipated, the Netflix production emerged as the night’s biggest winner, taking home a total of eleven awards, including:

  • Best Musical Score for Fiction
  • Best Cinematography for Fiction
  • Best Production Design for Fiction
  • Best Young Talent for Cristal Aparicio
  • Best Supporting Actor for Diego Vasquez
  • Best Supporting Actress for Viña Machado
  • Best Breakthrough Actor for Susana Morales
  • Best Leading Actor for Claudio Cataño
  • Best Leading Actress for Marleyda Soto
  • Audience Favorite Fiction Production
  • Best Fiction Screenplay

“On behalf of that incredible team of workers—everyone who fed us, cared for us, and supported us—we bless this production and thank you all for this recognition. This award is for Colombia,” said Diego Vasquez, the actor portraying the adult Jose Arcadio Buendia, during his acceptance speech.

‘The other side,’ the best Ibero-American feature film

Among the most celebrated awards of the evening were those in the inaugural categories dedicated to honoring Ibero-American cinema. Daniel Posada’s feature film took home the award for Best Ibero-American Fiction Feature Film.

This adaptation of Carlos Framb’s book, based on the author’s real-life experience, follows the story of a renowned Colombian poet who wakes up handcuffed to a hospital bed. Accused of his mother’s murder, he maintains it was an act of love.

The film’s leads also claimed their honors. The award for Best Actress in an Ibero-American Fiction Feature Film went to veteran Colombian actress Vicky Hernandez, while her co-star Julian Roman won the prize for Best Actor in an Ibero-American Fiction Feature Film.

Other outstanding winners at the 41st edition of the India Catalina Awards

In addition to “One Hundred Years of Solitude,” Netflix received an award for Best Documentary for The Lost Children, as well as two statuettes for Hijacking of Flight 601 and one for Best Fiction Direction for “The First Time..

In the television category, Marcelo Cezan won the award for Best Variety Show Host for his work on the program “Bravíssimo” on City TV, a channel that took home four India Catalina awards during this edition.

Meanwhile, Claudia Bahamon of “MasterChef Celebrity” received the award for Audience’s Favorite Host.

The ceremony also featured heartfelt tributes. A posthumous honor was paid to actress Sandra Reyes, remembered for her role in “Pedro, el escamoso,” and comedian Fabiola Posada, known as La Gorda Fabiola (Fabiola the Chubby), both of whom passed away in 2024. These recognitions highlighted their legacies and contributions to Colombian entertainment.

Finally, actress Margarita Rosa de Francisco and actor Manolo Cardona each received individual career achievement awards.

Margarita Rosa de Francisco was honored with the Lifetime Achievement Víctor Nieto Nuñez Award, celebrating her over four decades of work in television and film.

Manolo Cardona, meanwhile, received the International Career Achievement Award, recognizing a career in which, as both an actor and producer, he gained acclaim both within and outside Colombia through various projects. His most recent work includes the Netflix series “Medusa” (2025).
