Famous content creator Westcol from Colombia is making history by becoming the first streamer to be nominated for a Latin Grammy. The recognition comes thanks to the song “La Plena,” nominated in the category of Best Urban Performance/Urban Fusion.

The nomination stems from the success of “La Plena,” performed by Beele in collaboration with W Sounds and producer Ovy on the Drums. The awards ceremony will take place on Nov. 13 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, one of the most prestigious stages for Latin music.

Why did the Colombian streamer westcol receive a Grammy nomination?

Luis Villa, known artistically as Westcol, achieved this milestone through his participation in the W Sound project, a series of musical releases that blend urban rhythms with Caribbean sounds. From this project came “La Plena,” the track that earned him the nomination.

Released in 2023, the song became a global hit:

  • 320 million views on YouTube.
  • Over 80 million streams on Spotify.
  • Top 50 Global on Spotify.
  • #14 most-viewed music video worldwide.
  • #1 viral song in Colombia and Spain.

Westcol is the biggest streamer in Colombia and one of the top ones in Latin America and the Hispanic world, with 2.4 followers on Australian streaming platform Kick and 1.6 million followers on both Twitch and YouTube.
