Medellin, Colombia, will become the epicenter of electronic music on Dec. 12 and 13, 2025, when it hosts the 18.1 edition of the Blackdance Festival, also known as Blackdance Indra. The event, set to take place at Plaza Mayor, promises to deliver an unprecedented sonic, visual, and technological experience, bringing together world-class international artists with emerging national talent.
A fusion of art and technology in Medellin with the Blackdance Festival
The 18.1 edition of the festival stands out for its Indra concept, a proposal that merges digital art, immersive technology, and real-time improvised music. The project aims to create a multisensory experience in which sound, visuals, and movement blend organically, generating an enveloping atmosphere for attendees. So far, the confirmed lineup includes high-profile international artists:
Electric Indigo (Austria) — pioneer of experimental European techno.
Jin Synth (United Kingdom) — known for her futuristic and minimalist sound proposals.
Jamie Bissmire (United Kingdom) — legend of industrial techno and member of Space DJz.
Matthew Dear (United States) — global reference in minimal and tech-house, who will also perform under his alter ego Audion.
The first day will feature the highly anticipated “Battle of Legends,” with performances by Bissmire, DJ Shufflemaster (Japan), and Matthew Dear. The second day will be dedicated to the session INDRA Colombia No. 1, a collective creation bringing together Electric Indigo, Vince Watson (Scotland), Dino Sabatini (Italy), Jin Synth, Audion, and the Colombian artists Deraout and Chaos Frequency.
The festival will offer two simultaneous stages: One focused on international techno and another dedicated to national talent. To reinforce the festival’s aesthetic concept, organizers have established an all-black dress code, aiming to visually unify the audience experience.
Medellin: epicenter of electronic music in Colombia
The Blackdance Festival stands out not only for its artistic curation but also for the role it plays in Medellin’s growing electronic music scene. Over the past decade, the city has positioned itself as a major reference point in Latin America, attracting international-scale events and establishing itself as a key hub for techno and experimental music. Each year, Medellin hosts major electronic festivals and gatherings such as:
Freedom Festival, one of the most influential techno events in Latin America.
Festival Ritval, known for alternative electronic and indie-electronic sounds.
Undercity Medellin, featuring hard techno and industrial DJs.
Sonar Bogota (with itinerant editions that have included Medellin), exploring the intersection of music, creativity, and technology.
Numerous label parties and renowned clubs such as Salon Amador, Perro Negro, and Danilo’s, which keep the electronic culture active year-round.
This constant offer has turned Medellin into a nerve center for producers, DJs, and artistic collectives, who find in the city an eager and loyal audience ready to explore new sonic landscapes. In this context, the Blackdance Festival 18.1 stands as an unmissable event that strengthens the international positioning of Medellin.
