The Colombia Women’s Futsal National Team secured its place in the quarterfinals of the FIFA Futsal Women’s World Cup 2025 in the Philippines after a commanding 4–1 victory over Thailand’s women’s futsal team. With this triumph, the Colombians move into the top eight in the world and now prepare for their knockout-stage matchup.
The match, held at the PhilSports Arena in Manila, showcased an aggressive Colombia from the very start — pressing high, moving the ball quickly, and controlling possession. Just minutes into the game, a collective play led by Diana Celis resulted in the opening goal. Shortly after, Merlin Salcedo extended the lead, while Thailand managed to pull one back just before halftime. In the second half, Salcedo scored again and Danna Rodriguez sealed the win, closing the match 4–1 and confirming Colombia’s advance.
Colombia’s path to the second round at the Futsal World Cup
Colombia’s journey through Group B was not straightforward: They began with a 2–0 win over Canada Women’s Futsal, but then suffered a tough 5–1 defeat against Spain Women’s Futsal, casting doubts on their chances of qualifying.
However, in the decisive final match, when everything was on the line, the Colombian players responded with determination and confidence, demonstrating both physical and tactical strength. They secured second place in the group with six points. That resilience allowed them to advance from the group stage into the quarterfinals.
In search of the semifinal
With their qualification confirmed, Colombia will face Argentina Women’s Futsal in the quarterfinals, another powerful South American team that also advanced from Group A. The match is scheduled for Monday, Dec. 1, 2025, at 5:00 a.m. (Colombian time), at the same venue in Manila.
This clash represents a new challenge — a continental classic that will demand the very best from the Colombian side, physically, tactically, and mentally. It will be a test of their ambition, collective cohesion, and competitive capability in decisive stages of the tournament.
