Colombian gymnast Angel Barajas climbed onto the international podium again this Sunday after winning two silver medals at the Artistic Gymnastics World Cup held in Antalya, Turkey. The athlete stood out in the parallel bars and horizontal bar finals in a day that confirmed the strong form he is enjoying on the international circuit.

The two new podium finishes come just days after his outstanding performance at the Baku, Azerbaijan stop, where he won gold on the parallel bars and bronze on the horizontal bar. With these results, the young Colombian consolidates a remarkable start to the season and reaffirms himself as one of the leading emerging figures in world gymnastics.

The first medal of the day came in the parallel bars final. Barajas performed a solid routine that earned him a score of 14.366, enough to secure second place on the podium in the competition. The gold went to Japan’s Shinnosuke Oka, who reached 14.700 points, while Turkey’s Ferhat Arican completed the podium with a score of 14.233.

The Colombian displayed a combination of technical difficulty and precision in execution that kept him among the best throughout the event. His performance confirmed the consistency he has shown on this apparatus in recent seasons, where he has established himself as one of the most competitive specialists on the international circuit.

Hours later, Barajas competed again in the horizontal bar final and repeated the story. With a high-level routine he achieved a score of 14.966, a result that allowed him to once again claim the silver medal. The gold went to Chinese Taipei gymnast Tang Chia-hung with 15.200 points, while Serbia’s Tin Srbic won the bronze medal.

The Colombian’s double performance in Antalya reflected his ability to compete at the highest level on two different apparatus. The horizontal bar requires a combination of power, coordination and precision in releases and catches, while the parallel bars demand control, strength and complex technical transitions. In both events, Barajas managed to remain among the best in the world.

A brilliant start to the season

The results obtained in Turkey add to those the gymnast had achieved in early March in Baku, at the second stop of the World Cup circuit. There, Barajas was crowned champion on the parallel bars with a score of 14.600 and also won bronze on the horizontal bar, consolidating a performance that placed him among the tournament’s leading contenders.

That performance confirmed that the Colombian had begun the season at a very high competitive level. Before Baku he had also reached the podium at the World Cup in Cottbus, Germany, where he won the silver medal in the horizontal bar event, another result that highlighted his consistency on the circuit.

The Antalya stop represented the third competition of the calendar for Barajas on the international circuit, and his goal was to maintain the streak of finals and medals. The Colombian had qualified for the finals in both apparatus after a solid preliminary round, foreshadowing a decisive day for his season.

With the two medals won in Turkey, the gymnast expands his collection of World Cup medals and confirms his ability to compete consistently among the elite of artistic gymnastics.

The consolidation of a young figure

At 19, Barajas has become one of the most prominent names in Colombian sports and one of the most promising talents in world gymnastics. His international breakthrough began drawing attention when he won the silver medal on the horizontal bar at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, becoming the first Colombian to win an Olympic medal in this discipline.

Since then, the athlete has maintained steady progress on the international circuit. His ability to perform high-difficulty routines, combined with notable stability in execution, has led him to compete in finals and reach podiums at different stops on the world calendar.

The recent performances in Baku and Antalya reinforce that trend and raise expectations about his immediate future. Each competition on the circuit has become an opportunity for the Colombian to gain experience and continue refining his routines against some of the best gymnasts on the planet.

The double podium achieved in Turkey not only confirms his strong sporting moment, but also keeps alive the expectation that Barajas will continue expanding the record of Colombian gymnastics at upcoming international events. At just 19 years old and with a career that is only beginning, the native of Cúcuta continues to demonstrate that his name is already part of the new generation of leading figures in the sport.
