The upcoming Holy Week in Bogota will combine faith and physical activity. Whether those in the city decide to go to the ciclovia or climb the emblematic Monserrate hill, what is certain is that they will put the condition of their heart to the test. In the capital of Colombia, just as there will be space for reflection and spirituality, there is also a full program of physical and recreational activities.

The Mayor’s Office of Bogota and its District Institute of Recreation and Sport (IDRD) announced the schedules, planned activities, and recommendations to enjoy more than 138 kilometers of ciclovia and the ascent along the Monserrate trail, from March 29 to April 5. During the holidays of the coming week, the ciclovía will be open between 7:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m.

Family recreation days, road safety education, physical activity, and active mobility are planned to promote the use of public space and the bicycle as a sustainable means of transportation in the District. This agenda is framed within the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Bogotá ciclovía, recognized as the oldest recreational one in the world.

In the case of the Monserrate trail, it will have ascent hours between 5:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. The IDRD is preparing a special operation for this tourist attraction during Holy Week due to the high demand from visitors during one of the busiest times of the year. The following is the schedule, according to the IDRD:

Palm Sunday: March 29

The Bogota ciclovia will operate fully across its entire 138.24-kilometer network, with the following activities:

At Carrera 9 with Calle 116, an Alternative Ciclovia point will be set up with pickleball practice, table soccer, and recreational activities.

There will be road education and behavior campaigns at Carrera 7 with Calle 34, with the aim of promoting safe and responsible mobility.

The Ciclovia Te Cuida strategy will be present with playful and recreational activities on Avenida Boyacá with Calle 12 and on Carrera 7 with Calle 28.

That same day, the event Pull-ups in Ciclovia will take place, led by content creator Mesendinho Hernandez, who will attempt to complete a 32-kilometer route performing ball juggling along the Ciclovia route, starting at 7:00 a.m. from Calle 26 with Carrera 96i.

In addition, Canal Capital will produce the magazine program “Cicloviva” at Carrera 7 with Calle 28, a space that showcases stories and experiences of Ciclovía users.

Holy Thursday: April 2

All ciclovia sections will be available, ensuring connectivity of corridors for a better user experience.

To strengthen coexistence and road safety, there will be road education campaigns on Avenida Boyaca with Calle 3 and on Calle 26 with Avenida Las Americas.

Good Friday: April 3

On this day there will be no Ciclovia service in any part of the city. Operations will resume on Sunday, April 5, at the usual schedule.

Easter Sunday: April 5

The day will feature a special program, maintaining normal operations, with the exception of a partial closure. However, to facilitate entry into Bogota during the return plan, the section of Avenida Boyaca between Parque El Tunal and the Santo Tomas de Aquino church will be suspended.

The activities planned for this day are:

At Carrera 9 with Calle 116, an Alternative Ciclovía point will be set up with pickleball practice and freestyle scooter.

The Ciclovia Te Cuida strategy will be present at Carrera 50 with Calle 2B and at Diagonal 16 Sur with Carrera 50, with recreational activities for the whole family.

Road education campaigns will take place at Carrera 50 with Avenida Primera de Mayo, promoting responsible use of the Ciclovia.

For children, the Walk Bike space will be available at Carrera 50 with Calle 2B, aimed at learning and enjoying active mobility.

IDRD recommendations about the Bogota ciclovia

Verify the identity of any person wearing institutional clothing and offering services or products, as these actions are not carried out without official authorization.

Program staff do not request personal belongings, do not ask to borrow bicycles, nor persuade users to move to isolated places.

For a safe ascent to Monserrate

The IDRD announced schedules and recommendations for the ascent of this tourist and religious attraction during Holy Week. During this season, a high number of visitors is expected, especially on Good Friday (April 3, 2026), close to 60,000 people.

The pedestrian trail will be open for ascent between 5:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m., and for descent until 4:00 p.m. After that time, the return must be made only by cable car or funicular. The trail will remain closed on Tuesdays for maintenance.

The institute warned that access to the route may be restricted if maximum capacity is reached. It should be noted that the “Pico del Aguila” (“Eagle Peak”) trail remains closed as a preventive measure due to the possibility of falling debris.

IDRD recommendations for climbing Monserrate during Holy Week

The entry of strollers, walkers, pets, and sound amplification devices is restricted.

The consumption of alcoholic beverages is prohibited throughout the entire route.

Entry of children shorter than one meter is not allowed.

People over 75 years of age are advised to use the cable car or the funicular.
