The children’s and youth group Colombia Canta y Encanta has confirmed its arrival at two major international stages in 2026, such as Disney and Brazil, strengthening its role as an ambassador of traditional Colombian music.
The choir, made up of children and young performers from Medellin, will perform at Walt Disney World Resort on April 18 and will later travel to Rio de Janeiro in the second half of the year. As part of its international tour, the group will also perform on April 15 at the Trail Theater in Miami.
With this announcement, the group reaffirms its mission to showcase Colombia’s Andean sounds — such as bambuco, pasillos, and torbellinos — on stages where these genres are not commonly heard, bringing a message of cultural identity to international audiences.
Colombia Canta y Encanta: an international tour of Colombian folklore
The performance at Disney will mark the eighth time that Colombia Canta y Encanta takes the stage at this renowned venue in the United States, a milestone that reflects the group’s consistency and growing recognition abroad. On this occasion, the young performers will present a repertoire focused on traditional Colombian Andean music, accompanied by instruments such as the tiple, guitar, and piano.
The second stop of the tour will be Brazil, where the group will make its debut in Rio de Janeiro with a proposal that blends choral singing and folk dance. This presentation represents a significant step in their international expansion, as it will be the first time they bring their repertoire to this South American country.
The group features around 30 children and young performers on stage, although its educational program involves more than 150 participants. All of them receive comprehensive musical training that goes beyond vocal technique, emphasizing the cultural value of Colombian traditions.
An educational project that preserves cultural identity
Founded more than two decades ago by teacher Silvia Zapata Durango in Medellín, Colombia Canta y Encanta was created with the purpose of keeping traditional music alive among new generations. From its headquarters in the Laureles neighborhood, the project has established itself as one of the most prominent cultural initiatives in children’s artistic education in the country.
Its repertoire includes works by emblematic composers of Colombian and Latin American music, allowing the group to build a solid artistic proposal that blends tradition with choral technique. Throughout its trajectory, they have participated in festivals and cultural events in countries such as Spain, Austria, Italy, Mexico, and the United States, earning recognition for their contribution to the preservation of folklore.
Colombian culture on global stages
The arrival of Colombia Canta y Encanta to Disney and Brazil represents not only an artistic achievement, but also a significant contribution to the international projection of Colombian culture. In a context dominated by commercial genres, the presence of traditional music on global stages expands cultural diversity and highlights other expressions of the country.
Moreover, these performances strengthen Colombia’s image as a nation rich in musical heritage, capable of exporting young talent with authentic proposals.
