Colombia once again captured international attention in extreme sports thanks to the achievement of Diego Alejandro Molano, an athlete from Cundinamarca, who set a new world record by covering more than 3 kilometers on a slackline while blindfolded in the Chicamocha Canyon, located in Santander.

The athlete completed a total distance of 3,254 meters without falling, moving across a line suspended 300 meters above the ground. The feat was officially certified by the International Slackline Association, the organization responsible for validating this type of record worldwide.

The accomplishment not only represents a personal victory for Molano, but also positions Colombia as a leading setting for high-level competitions in alternative disciplines and adventure sports.

The Colombian walked blindfolded in one of Colombia’s most impressive landscapes

The challenge took place in the Chicamocha Canyon, one of Colombia’s most emblematic geographical landmarks and a major tourist attraction in the department of Santander. The site, known for its deep cliffs and strong wind currents, added an extra level of difficulty to a challenge already considered extreme.

Molano walked on a 1,302-meter nylon line installed between two strategic points of the canyon. However, through a back-and-forth system during the crossing, he managed to complete more than three kilometers while blindfolded, relying solely on his balance, body memory, and mental concentration.

The physical demand was enormous. In slackline, every step requires constant body adjustments to compensate for the movement of the line. By removing sight, the athlete depended entirely on breathing control, muscular coordination, and spatial awareness developed through years of training.

Extreme sports specialists noted that few challenges combine physical endurance and psychological strength so intensely, making this record an unprecedented milestone within the discipline.

How did the athlete prepare for this feat?

Diego Alejandro Molano has spent more than a decade involved in slackline and highline, a modality practiced at great heights. During that time, he has focused on perfecting balance techniques, core strength, and emotional control—essential aspects for facing challenges of this magnitude.

The record attempt also required a complex technical operation. More than 20 professionals, including rescuers, riggers, height technicians, and logistics personnel, participated in setting up the line and implementing the necessary safety protocols for the event.

According to the athlete after completing the crossing, the result was the product of years of discipline and confidence in the preparation process. His message was interpreted as a sign of the growing professionalism that now surrounds alternative sports in Colombia.
