Colombia’s music industry reached one of its most important milestones in the streaming era in 2025. According to data revealed by Spotify and various industry reports, music produced in Colombia generated more than US$115 million in royalties on the platform, a record that confirms the international growth of Colombian talent and the country’s position as one of Latin America’s leading music powers.
The figure represents double the amount generated just four years earlier and reflects the global expansion of Colombian artists in international markets. According to the report, more than 90% of the royalties came from listeners outside Colombia, especially from Latin America, the United States, and Europe, regions where Colombian artists have managed to build massive audiences.
The growth was also accompanied by a significant expansion of Colombia’s music market, which surpassed the US$100 million mark for the first time and reached US$105.2 million in 2025. In addition, the sector recorded annual growth of 17.9%, a figure higher than the Latin American average and one that highlights the strengthening of Colombia’s creative economy.
Colombian urban music drives the country’s global Growth on Spotify
Urban music consolidated itself as the main driver behind Colombia’s success on Spotify during 2025. Reggaeton, Latin trap, and urban fusion artists dominated global rankings and positioned Colombia as one of the most influential countries in the contemporary music landscape.
Artists such as Karol G, Feid, J Balvin, and Shakira remained among the most-streamed Colombian performers by international audiences, reinforcing the global impact of urban music produced in the country.
Another standout success story was Blessd, which went from having around 4 million monthly listeners in 2021 to surpassing 26 million in 2025. Meanwhile, Nanpa Basico exceeded 10 million monthly listeners after being featured in Spotify’s RADAR program, designed to support emerging artists with international potential.
Beyond reggaeton, other genres and musical fusions also gained momentum among global audiences, including Latin afrobeat, urban pop, and alternative proposals blending traditional sounds with contemporary production.
Colombia compared to other music powerhouses in Latin America
Although Colombia recorded historic Spotify figures in 2025, other Latin American markets also showed major growth within the music streaming industry. Mexico remained the region’s largest market, generating nearly US$480 million in revenue, driven by the massive music consumption in Mexico City, considered one of Spotify’s most active cities worldwide.
Brazil also established itself as one of the region’s biggest music powers thanks to the high volume of streams for genres such as Brazilian funk and sertanejo. According to industry reports, the country ranked among the global Top 5 in music streaming consumption during 2025.
Meanwhile, Argentina reached estimated revenues of US$150 million due to the growth of its urban music scene and the enduring impact of national rock music on digital platforms. Chile, on the other hand, reported close to US$100 million in royalties, mainly driven by the rise of Latin trap and contemporary pop.
In the regional comparison, Colombia generated approximately US$115 million in equivalent royalties, a figure lower than Mexico and Brazil, but notable for one key aspect: More than 90% of its revenue came from international listeners, demonstrating the enormous export potential of Colombian music.
