Colombia’s Gloria ship will be at the 250th anniversary of the U.S. The emblematic ARC Gloria arrived on May 28, 2026, at the port of New Orleans, Louisiana, to participate in SAIL250, the maritime commemoration organized to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the independence of the United States. The Colombian vessel was welcomed as one of the major international symbols of friendship and naval cooperation during the celebrations.

The training ship of the Colombian Navy sailed along the waters of the Mississippi River under the command of Navy Captain Héctor Nicanor González León and will remain docked at Bienville Street Wharf until Monday, June 1. Its presence is part of an international gathering of historic sailing ships and military vessels from different countries.

The arrival of the Gloria generated great excitement among residents and visitors in New Orleans, who watched the traditional three-masted ship navigate through one of the most important river corridors in the United States.

During the official SAIL250 activities, diplomatic representatives highlighted the symbolic value of Colombia’s participation in the American commemoration. Colombia’s ambassador to the United States, Daniel García-Peña, stated that Gloria’s visit represents an opportunity to continue strengthening cultural, maritime, and cooperation ties between the two nations.

The ARC Gloria is internationally known as Colombia’s “floating ambassador” because of its role in diplomatic missions, cultural exchanges, and naval events around the world. Over more than five decades of service, the vessel has visited more than 70 countries and participated in major international maritime gatherings.

The participation of the Colombian ship in SAIL250 also reinforces the historic relationship between Colombia and the United States in matters of regional security, naval cooperation, and maritime training. The presence of the sailing ship in New Orleans became a showcase to project the country’s image during one of the most important nautical events of 2026.
