India Catalina Awards and the Cartagena International Film Festival

Since 1984, the India Catalina Awards have been the highest honor in Colombia’s audiovisual industry. Established within the framework of FICCI, these awards recognize excellence in Colombian television and film. The award’s name pays tribute to India Catalina, an iconic figure in the country’s history.

FICCI is the oldest film festival in Latin America. Founded in 1960 by Víctor Nieto, it has been a vital platform for promoting cinema in Colombia and the region. Over the years, the festival has hosted renowned international filmmakers and actors, solidifying its status as a key reference in the film industry

The India Catalina Awards were created to recognize national talent in an environment that traditionally rewarded honoured productions. Since then, they have evolved into a platform that promotes audiovisual creation in various categories, including soap operas, documentaries and digital productions.

Each year, Cartagena becomes the epicenter of film and television, with the presence of filmmakers, actors and critics celebrating the country’s audiovisual wealth. Both the festival and the awards have been fundamental in the growth and recognition of Colombian talent on the international scene, reaffirming its importance in the country’s culture.
