The killing of two members of the crew of the series Sin senos no hay paraiso has shaken Colombia’s audiovisual industry. The attack, which took place last weekend in the Los Laches neighborhood in central Bogota, forced the immediate suspension of filming for the fourth season of the production, one of the most well-known on national television.

The victims, members of the technical crew, were attacked with a bladed weapon under circumstances that are still under investigation. The seriousness of the incident has not only caused shock among their coworkers but has also opened a new debate about safety conditions on shoots carried out in complex urban areas.

The entire country is watching in shock as news unfolds that, beyond the growing insecurity that has been reported for years in the capital, affects the team of a well-known television production and, with the death of one of the attackers as well, left a toll of three fatalities on Saturday afternoon.

The incident occurred while the crew was carrying out outdoor filming sessions. According to preliminary reports, the attack was sudden and left those present with no time to react. The two workers died as a result of their injuries, prompting an immediate halt to activities.

The production, which had resumed filming after months of preparation, was abruptly interrupted. Within hours, the filming location went from being an active set to a scene marked by violence, surrounded by authorities and shaken by the presence of coworkers trying to process what had happened.

Following the attack, actors, directors, and technical staff decided to indefinitely suspend filming as a sign of mourning and respect for the victims. The measure was adopted collectively, reflecting the emotional impact the crime had on the team.

Some members of the production stated that there are no conditions to continue working amid the shock. Beyond contractual commitments and the filming schedule, the priority has shifted to supporting the families of the deceased and demanding security guarantees.

The silence on sets, usually marked by constant activity, became a form of tribute. The pause, according to sources close to the production, has no defined end date.

The National Alliance of Audiovisual Workers (Anta) also weighed in, issuing a statement calling for the suspension of filming until the facts are clarified. “We urgently demand: The immediate suspension of the involved production until the events are fully clarified. A transparent, independent, and rigorous investigation to determine responsibilities and possible negligence,” the statement reads.

Investigation ongoing: two people detained

According to police, on the afternoon of Saturday, April 18, a man broke into the set of the well-known Colombian series armed with a sharp weapon. This individual attacked, without saying a word, a member of the crew who was leaning against a fence.

As a result of this action, two production workers died, another was injured, and the attacker also died after being subdued by people present at the scene. Four people were taken into custody and placed at the disposal of the Prosecutor’s Office.

Brigadier General Giovanni Cristancho, commander of the Bogota Police, described the sequence: “A man, without saying a word, attacks a citizen with a sharp weapon. Subsequently, people who were at the scene come to the victim’s defense, but the assailant causes injuries to two more people.”

The attacker was taken to a nearby hospital, where he ultimately died. The two victims from the crew also died due to the severity of their injuries. The commander ruled out robbery as a motive and spoke of “issues of tolerance,” although the Prosecutor’s Office is still investigating.

The aggressor, who was not carrying identification documents at the time of the incident, was later identified as Josue Cubillos, 24. Local Colombian media reported that this individual had at least four admissions to medical centers for mental health issues.

One of the identified victims is Nicolas Perdomo, a young field producer who tried to defend his colleague, the host, upon seeing the attack. The other deceased is Henry Alberto Benavides, also a member of the film crew.

Authorities launched an operation to clarify the events and identify those responsible for the attack. As part of that operation, two people were detained: Jorge Correa and Nelson Sanabria, members of the series’ film crew.
