When considering the best ski resorts in the world, most people think of the Alps or Vail, Colorado. These destinations are often seen as the standard for world-class skiing. However, Latin America—specifically Chile and Argentina—has gained recognition as home to some of the best ski resorts globally.

These resorts boast stunning views, including the snow-covered peaks of the Andes Mountains and the serene landscapes of Patagonia. They offer a unique blend of beauty and experience that is unmatched at other latitudes.

Located in the picturesque town of Bariloche, Patagonia, Cerro Catedral is the best ski resort Argentina has to offer. It is the largest ski resort in Latin America, with over 120 kilometers of groomed runs, and plenty of terrain for tourists to explore and adventure in.

This resort is also meant to be enjoyed by all types of snowboarders and skiers alike, given that it has a variety of courses that almost anyone can enjoy. Besides the great courses though, Cerro Catedral has incredible views of Lake Nahuel Huapi and snow-capped peaks that surround the resort.

The best time to visit this resort is between July and September, given that it has the most steady influx of snow during that time of the year.

This resort is located just an hour and a half away from Chile’s capital, Santiago, making it one of the most accessible ski resorts in Latin America. The resort itself is located in the high Andes and has the most reliable snow in the region. Besides the beauty of the Andes, the Valle Nevado ski resort is also famous for its high-speed lifts and luxurious spaces.

In turn, this steady flow of snow means that the best time to visit the Valle Nevado ski resort is between June to mid-September.

Additionally, Valle Nevado is connected to two other neighboring ski resorts, El Colorado and La Parva. This closeness between resorts composes the largest skiable area in the entire Southern Hemisphere.

The boutique resort of Portillo in Chile’s Andes overlooks the beautiful waters of Laguna del Inca but has gained a reputation for being one of the most challenging ski courses in Latin America.

This means that this resort attracts more seasoned skiers, as not everyone can handle the slopes Portillo has to offer. In recent years, the resort has also attracted heli-skiing enthusiasts, given that it offers powder runs. The best time to visit this resort is also between July and Early September. It’s worth saying that July and August are more suited for powder enthusiasts.

The resort also features vibrant nightclubs, and a great selection of local wines, produced in the province.

The best time to visit this resort is from July to August because these months usually offer the best snow conditions in Mendoza, where the resort is located.

As it was previously explained, La Parva neighbors two other resorts in the Andes. Like Valle Nevado, it is also located near Santiago, which makes it very accessible, with the difference being that La Parva is usually less crowded than some of the more popular resorts in the region.

Like Valle Nevado, the best time to visit the La Parva ski resort is between June and September.
