Space tourism is no longer just an idea from science fiction and is increasingly becoming a commercial reality. One of the most ambitious projects in this field is Voyager Station, considered by its promoters to be the world’s first space hotel, which could open as early as 2027.

Although the timeline has undergone adjustments, the initiative continues to move forward and is capturing the attention of the aerospace industry and the international tourism sector.

The proposal marks a turning point in how humanity envisions travel beyond Earth: No longer only as scientific missions but also as luxury experiences for travelers willing to pay millions of dollars to sleep in orbit.

What the Voyager Station, the first space hotel, will be like

Voyager Station is a project developed by the U.S.-based company Orbital Assembly Corporation (OAC), which aims to build a commercial space station in low Earth orbit. Its design breaks away from the traditional model of current space stations: It will have the shape of a rotating wheel, a structure that will generate artificial gravity through centrifugal force, making it easier for guests to adapt.

According to initial plans, the station will have the capacity to accommodate up to 400 people, including tourists and crew members. The complex will feature rooms and suites with direct views of Earth, as well as common areas typical of a luxury hotel: Restaurants, bars, a gym, a spa, and spaces dedicated to scientific and educational activities.

From a technological standpoint, Voyager Station will consist of pressurized modules with advanced life-support systems, solar power, and environmental controls, allowing for extended stays under relatively comfortable conditions for visitors.

Although the original announcement pointed to a 2027 launch, the company has acknowledged that it is a project still under development and in the design and infrastructure testing phase. Progress in building prototypes on the ground was reported during 2025, a key step before beginning assembly in space.

The rotating ring structure will create artificial gravity, while guests enjoy private suites, earth-view lounges, and even gyms bars and restaurants – all orbiting our planet. #SpaceHotel #Space #Hotel #Tech #Science ♬ Interstellar – Cornfield Chase – Dy Kamylle & Soft Notes & Cinematic Atmosphere & Calmfy

Galactic tourism: extreme luxury and million-dollar prices

One of the aspects that generates the most anticipation is the cost of staying at the hotel. According to preliminary estimates, a stay at Voyager Station could range between US$5 million and US$50 million per person, depending on the chosen package. This amount would include not only the stay at the space hotel, but also transportation, pre-flight training, and the safety protocols required to travel outside the planet.

More recent reports suggest that with advances in new launch technologies, such as SpaceX’s Starship, costs could eventually drop to around US$5 million dollars, a figure that, while still exclusive, represents a step toward the gradual democratization of space tourism.

By comparison, other current experiences in the sector, such as the suborbital flights offered by Blue Origin and Virgin Galactic, are priced between US$250,000 and US$450,000, but provide only a few minutes of weightlessness (due to the lack of gravity). Voyager Station aims to stand apart by offering a complete orbital hospitality experience, with services similar to those of a five-star resort.
