In Colombia, among all the country’s paradise beaches, one stands out: the nude beach at Boca del Saco. Tucked away in Tayrona National Park, Boca del Saco is a haven for those interested in this uninhibited form of tourism. The beach is located less than half an hour from Santa Marta, the capital of the Magdalena region.
Boca del Saco, a nude beach in Colombia
Authorities have noted that this beach is not legally designated as a nude beach. Instead, it became one because it is relatively hidden from park visitors. Its seclusion gave nudists an unofficial green light.
To reach Colombia’s only nude beach, travelers should head to Tayrona National Park and the Cabo San Juan beach. From Santa Marta, it’s a two- to three-hour bus trip.
From Cabo San Juan, a trail leads to Bocas del Saco 1, the main beach. If you continue walking to the end of the beach, you’ll come across a small forest. Another 10 minutes of walking will bring you to Boca del Saco 2, Colombia’s only nude beach.
This secluded beach is the last one in the park’s eastern area. Juan Carlos Rodriguez, a contractor for Tayrona National Park, explained that Boca del Saco—only accessible by a 2-hour and 45-minute walk from the park’s entrance—stands out for its seclusion, making it an attractive destination for eco-tourism. Its remoteness has preserved it as an almost pristine ecosystem, free from pollution and contamination.
Local tourism guides claim that, besides nudists, eco-tourists are drawn to this beach because of its remoteness. They explain that the beach is not visited much because people have to take a long hike to get there.
It’s important to note that swimming in the sea at this beach is not allowed; visitors can only enjoy the shallow waters along the shore. Boca del Saco has become a popular destination among social media influencers, many of whom advocate for body positivity and the mental health benefits of nudism, describing it as a liberating experience. Thousands of photos tag the beach on social media platforms like Instagram.
